STEM Graduate Teaching Assistant

Are you a high-achieving STEM graduate looking to put your degree to meaningful use?

Could you inspire ambitious young people to excel in Maths, Science, Engineering or Computing?

Want to gain exceptional classroom experience before potentially training to teach in 2027?

KPI Education is searching for an academically strong STEM Graduate Teaching Assistant to join an ambitious secondary school and sixth form in Westminster, Central London this September.

This opportunity is perfect for a graduate in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, Computer Science or another STEM discipline who wants to gain substantial classroom experience while exploring a future career in teaching.

Rather than simply observing lessons, you will become an important academic resource within the school's STEM provision.

Why Apply?

  • Earn £26,000–£30,000, with a minimum of £550 per week
  • Full-time position for the entire 2026/27 academic year
  • Work predominantly within your STEM specialism
  • Support pupils across KS3, GCSE and potentially A-Level
  • Deliver 1:1 tuition and small-group interventions
  • Support pupils targeting Grades 8 and 9
  • Work alongside experienced Maths, Science and Computing teachers
  • Mentor pupils who need additional confidence or academic challenge
  • Develop classroom management and lesson-delivery skills
  • Contribute to STEM clubs, competitions and enrichment
  • Potential opportunity to train as a teacher from September 2027

The School

Located in Westminster, this is a diverse, academically ambitious secondary school with a thriving sixth form and a strong culture of high expectations.

The leadership team places significant emphasis on university progression, academic achievement and creating opportunities for pupils regardless of their background.

STEM subjects play an important role within the curriculum. Students are encouraged to develop curiosity, independent thinking and sophisticated problem-solving skills while considering future pathways into medicine, engineering, technology, computing and scientific research.

Your Role

Your week could involve supporting a challenging Year 11 Maths lesson, running a small-group GCSE Science intervention, helping an individual pupil understand a difficult Physics concept and supporting sixth-form students with advanced subject content.

Responsibilities could include:

  • Supporting classroom teachers
  • Running targeted academic interventions
  • Helping pupils prepare for GCSE examinations
  • Supporting practical Science activities
  • Creating revision and extension resources
  • Stretching high-achieving pupils
  • Mentoring students struggling with STEM subjects
  • Supporting extracurricular activities
  • Gradually delivering sections of lessons as your confidence develops

Who Should Apply?

A First-Class or 2:1 degree is highly desirable, alongside strong A-Level results and excellent subject knowledge.

Applications are particularly encouraged from graduates in Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering and Computer Science, including graduates from Russell Group and other academically strong universities.

Previous school experience is not essential. The school is primarily looking for academic ability, excellent communication skills, enthusiasm and the potential to become an outstanding educator.

For anyone seriously considering teaching, this is an opportunity to spend a full academic year developing practical experience before potentially progressing into teacher training in 2027.
