Duties:

Temporary Stores Controller

Crewe

£27,000 (perm equiv) for 30 hour working week

Monday - Friday

Working Hours - 30 hours per week (flexible between core hours of 8am & 6pm)

Ideal candidate will have stores/stock control background in Retail, Production/manufacturing or FMCG

  

An opportunity has arisen for a UK Stock Controller to join the engineering division within a leading FMCG business. This role plays a key part in supporting engineering operations across a highly automated food manufacturing environment that produces products for major UK retailers.  A background in Engineering is not essential as training will be given. Could someone who has carried a stores/inventory role previously within Retail, Production, Manufacturing and or FMCG environments.

The successful candidate will be responsible for controlling engineering parts and components, supporting inventory management processes, maintaining engineering documentation, and contributing to continuous improvement activities across the business.

Working both independently and collaboratively, you will engage with site teams, suppliers, auditors, regulators, and other stakeholders to ensure engineering inventory systems and processes operate efficiently while maintaining compliance with food safety, health & safety, and environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver and support the engineering inventory strategy across the business
  • Manage inventory processes within the CMMS system and support procurement activities
  • Maintain digital management systems, file structures, and confidential business correspondence
  • Produce reports relating to inventory management, asset management, and regulatory compliance
  • Create and maintain engineering documentation for components and assets.
  • Coordinate meetings, schedules, external resources, and document key actions and discussions
  • Support procurement and logistics activities for engineering components and spare parts
  • Monitor inventory availability and review component performance and efficiency
  • Audit engineering documentation to ensure records remain accurate and current
  • Assist with supplier selection and performance monitoring
  • Support reactive maintenance requests and inventory investigations during equipment breakdowns
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and engineering efficiency projects
  • Participate in internal and external audits
  • Support technical performance reviews alongside engineering and operational teams
  • Assist with administration and competency support for maintenance and operational personnel

 

Qualifications - Essential

  • Maths & English
  • Food Safety Qualification Level 2 would be an advantage but not essential within 12 months.

Qualifications - Desirable

  • Business Administration Level 3 (LARS Code 196)
  • Engineering Qualification Level 2 or above
  • Supplementary Engineering Qualifications
  • SEMA qualification

Skills & Experience

  • Experience of working within a stores/stock control position
  • Spare parts and inventory management experience
  • Background in Retail, Production/manufacturing or FMCG
  • Good Maths & English skills
  • Strong IT skills
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
  • Experience planning work schedules and producing reports
  • Ability to read and follow site SOPs (advantage)
  • CMMS experience would be an advantage
  • Spare parts and inventory management experience
  • Budgetary awareness and control
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Negotiation and influencing abilities
  • Health, Safety & Environmental awareness
