A thriving secondary school in Leeds is looking for an enthusiastic Graduate Science Teaching Assistant to join their successful Science department this January. This isn't just a stepping stone—it's a launchpad for your teaching career.
You'll Need:
- A Science degree (2:1 or higher) in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or a related field – your subject knowledge is essential
- Passion for education – you genuinely want to help young people succeed
- Clear communication skills – you can explain ideas in ways students understand
- Enthusiasm and resilience – teaching is rewarding but can be challenging
- Commitment to safeguarding – all candidates will undergo enhanced DBS checks
What You'll Actually Be Doing:
- Deliver targeted 1:1 and small-group interventions for students who need extra support
- Help GCSE students master challenging concepts and exam techniques across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics
- Work with learners across all abilities—from those building foundational scientific understanding to high-achievers pursuing top grades
- Assist classroom teachers in delivering engaging Science lessons
- Support practical experiments and demonstrate safe laboratory techniques
- Develop strategies for explaining complex ideas in accessible ways
- Learn classroom management techniques in a supportive environment
- Observe excellent teaching practice firsthand
It Would Be Great If You Have:
- Any tutoring, mentoring, or volunteering experience with young people
- Familiarity with the UK secondary Science curriculum
- Clear ambitions to pursue qualified teacher status
