An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Health, Safety and Environmental Officer for a client of mine based in Wigan. As the H&S Officer, you will be working closely with the SHEQ Manager to ensure that safety inspections are carried out as per company standards.  

Based in the Wigan area, this company manufactures high performance building materials to solve the complex challenges faced by today’s construction industry.

This is a varied role, so as well as your knowledge and experience working in health and safety, you will be responsible for the training and development of other staff members, so your interpersonal skills must be matched with your experience.

I am looking for someone who is organised and proficient, that is able to multitask whilst maintaining a high attention to detail.

More Duties Include:

  • Provide administrative support across a broad spectrum of Quality and Health and Safety tasks.
  • Undertake regular audits to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented on accordance with ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001.
  • Ensure that safety inspections are carried out i.e fire alarm tests/drills.
  • Assist in documenting and investigating all incidents and accidents.
  • Ensuring that all H&S policies, procedures, rules, and regulations are adhered to and are regularly reviewed, updated, and communicated.
  • Administrating risk assessments.
  • Administration of customer complaints and associated analysis data.
  • Ensure a policy of continual improvement is applied to all three disciplines by engaging employees at all levels.
  • Training and development of staff members, including toolbox talks.

Successful candidates will have the following:

  • Previous experience in a manufacturing environment. Exposure to quality tools, auditing and risk assessments is desirable.
  • IOSH/ NEBOSH qualification or working towards one. Internal Auditor Qualification is desirable.
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office Packages, and knowledge of SAP is advantageous.
  • The ability to multi-task, to prioritise workload and foster strong working relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail.

Salary & Benefits:

  • A competitive annual salary between £28-30k dependant on experience.
  • Lucrative performance-based bonus scheme, where you could earn additional 10% of your base salary.
  • 25 days holiday entitlement (excluding bank holidays) increasing to 27 days holiday following length of service with the business.
