Mechanical Design Engineer (Contract)
Are you a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer looking for your next opportunity? We are a leading engineering company searching for a motivated individual to join our dynamic team. Position: Mechanical Design Engineer (Contract) 4 day working week Monday to Thursday.
Location: North Manchester
Salary: Hourly rate (Outside IR35)
Start Date: ASAP
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop detailed 3D models and General Arrangement drawings using Autodesk Inventor.
- Create Design for Manufacture outputs including assembly drawings, fabrication drawings, and Bill of Materials.
- Ensure designs comply with product assurance limitations and safety regulations (CDM).
- Prepare Designer’s Risk Assessments and work closely with analysis engineers to refine designs.
- Attend design and manufacturability reviews, driving design decisions within the project team.
- Support continuous improvement and contribute to R&D activities for bespoke projects.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure project success.
Essential Qualifications & Skills:
- HND in Engineering + 5 years of industrial sheet/steel fabrication experience OR BEng in Mechanical Engineering + 3 years of relevant experience.
- Proficiency in Autodesk 3D Inventor, AutoCAD, and Autodesk Vault.
- Strong understanding of steel manufacturing techniques, load paths, failure modes, and BS 8888 for engineering drawings.
- Excellent communication skills with the flexibility to work overtime when needed.
Desirable Skills:
- Awareness of door performance testing and control systems principles.
- Knowledge of welding types and tolerance stacking.
- Ability to program templates using iLogic/VB.
- Valid SC clearance or ability to obtain it.
