We are proud to be recruiting for a Multi-Skilled / Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join a leading chemical manufacturing business based in Northwich. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a highly reputable, process‑driven site where reliability, safety and continuous improvement are at the heart of everything they do.

You will play a key role in delivering planned, predictive and reactive maintenance, ensuring plant performance is optimised and aligned with strict safety, quality and environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned, preventative and reactive maintenance across a range of mechanical and process plant equipment.
  • Follow all site procedures related to Health & Safety, quality and environmental systems.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance plant performance, processes and site safety.
  • Work closely with internal teams and assist in supervising external contractors to ensure compliance with site rules.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and equipment checks.
  • Respond promptly to unplanned breakdowns to reduce downtime and maintain operational efficiency.
  • Use maintenance management systems for logging work, materials usage and completing PPM tasks.
  • Safely repair, overhaul and maintain plant machinery, utilities and associated services.
  • Contribute to the smooth running of the maintenance function including tool control, housekeeping, and spare parts management.
  • Participate in the maintenance call‑out rota when required.
  • Diagnose faults using Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and implement corrective actions.
  • Work within budget guidelines, identifying opportunities for cost savings.
  • Promote and uphold a strong Safety‑First culture across the site.
  • Engage in personal development and training opportunities, sharing best practice across the team.

Skills & Experience Required

  • A recognised engineering apprenticeship with a formal engineering qualification.
  • Previous experience as a Maintenance Engineer within an industrial, process, chemical or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge including hands‑on experience with drive couplings, chains, belts, bearings and rotating equipment.
  • Multi-skilled experience (electrical awareness beneficial but not essential).
  • Strong fault‑finding skills and the ability to work under pressure during plant stoppages.
  • Good communication, teamwork and a proactive approach to site improvement.
